BMW 7 Series: Electronic Damping Force Adjustment
REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING VERTICAL DYNAMICS MANAGEMENT
CONTROL UNIT (VDM WITH DYNAMIC DRIVE)
IMPORTANT: Read and comply with notes on PROTECTION AGAINST ELECTROSTATIC
DISCHARGE (ESD PROTECTION).
Necessary preliminary tasks
- Remove ignition key
- Disconnect BATTERY NEGATIVE LEAD
- Remove SIDE TRIM PANEL FROM FOOTWELL ON RIGHT A-PILLAR
Fold carpet in footwell at bottom right to one side.
Release screws (1).
Tightening torque 37 14 6AZ.

Unlock plug connections (1) in direction of arrow and disconnect.
Remove control unit.

After installation
- Replacement only: Carry out PROGRAMMING/ENCODING

IMPORTANT: Read and comply with notes on PROTECTION AGAINST ELECTROSTATIC

Necessary preliminary tasks
- Remove ignition key
- Disconnect BATTERY NEGATIVE LEAD
- Remove SIDE TRIM PANEL from footwell on right A-pillar
Fold carpet in footwell at front right to one side.
Unscrew nuts (1).
Tightening torque 37 14 6AZ.

Unlock plug connections (1) in direction of arrow and disconnect.
Remove control unit.

After installation
- Replacement only: Carry out PROGRAMMING/ENCODING

air pipes and air spring struts! Danger of injury if this instruction is not

Remove lashing eyes (1).

Remove protective caps (1) on left/right.

Release hexagon screws (1) and countersunk head screws (2) on left/right.
NOTE: The Service function Initial operation of Dynamic Drive must be
carried out
after:
Work on the Dynamic Drive system which involved opening hydraulic
lines
Replacement/Programming/Coding Dynamic Drive control unit (ICM - V -
High)
